First Republican Elected Row Officer Since 1951
For clerk of courts in Westmoreland County.
Today’s Pittsburgh Tribune-Review has the story:
All it took to break a 58-year-old losing streak for Republicans at the Westmoreland County Courthouse was a 28-year-old political newcomer.
But Bryan Kline said his improbable Election Day victory to unseat five-term incumbent David Patterson as clerk of courts was not easy, but not entirely unexpected.
“I went into it feeling real good. It was just a matter of getting voters out,” Kline said. “We made history this year, and it feels good.” ….
Kline’s campaign remained relatively quiet until the final weeks of the race. Kline launched several attacks at Patterson, claiming he was rarely at work. Mailers were sent out. Voters received automated telephone calls from Kline.
Kline estimated he spent no more than $8,000 during the campaign.
He won by nearly than 3,000 votes.
“I was definitely surprised when the results started coming in. We knew it was within reach and felt that it was something that could be done,” Kline said.
