Document Parties?
The St. Louis Tea Party is going to start throwing “document parties”:
These parties are closed to invitation only, but there will be a pretty broad invitation. Anyone interested in good governance who isn’t a nutball is welcome to join us. In addition to scouring through research documents, we’ll be teaching investigative techniques, Sunshine and FOIA requests, and information on how you can effect real change at the local level. We’ll also be meeting a major goal of the Tea Parties nationally, which is to build fellowship among those who were previously non-political. Every generation must renew its commitment to self-governing, and in throwing document parties, we’ll be playing to our strengths. Bill and Dana get a lot of requests to throw more protests, but those aren’t weekly events. It gets old to take to the streets, and a lot of people (those with kids, the elderly, those with liberal bosses, and those who don’t feel like tangling with SEIU street thugs) are looking for more to do to get involved. This is a major reason Gina Loudon’s Buycott has been so successful. People want to get involved, but they want to do so in different ways. So while some groups continue to meet in public, I’ll be leading a charge to get groups involved in the research to uncover corruption.
